On 16 March 2009, at Rangsit University (RSU), Thailand, there is a meeting between RS-Cyber University team and executive staff from an Office of Commission on Higher Education (OCHE). The meeting went on quite well from both sides. The Rangsit Cyber University team presented its vision, mission and educational processes as well as online tools and techniques for their online program. At this moment, Rangsit Cyber University is providing online courses on bachelor degree in Law, master degree of arts in leadership and master degree in information technology management. The University also showed how its online courses work. On the teachers’ side, RSCU presented the follow up tools for students’ story board attendance, fulfill assignments, chatting participation and posting web board. The university also presented the web board, story boards, chat conference, posting an entry, short messages, e-mail, etc., as an educational tools and method in online courses. Since, Rangsit University is a well-known classroom university for more than 20 years, which the university could bring its experiences and its credibility for manage its online university accordingly.
The meeting between RSCU and OCHE is very important. The meeting is essential, because RSCU is a private university that provide education for Thailand students while an OCHE is a government organization whose support, promotion and monitoring and evaluation educational standard in the country. From the meeting on that day, I saw an important further step in Thailand education. I saw the meeting as an opening of our education to the new era. for online education. I saw the Education that will be provided opportunities for many students. , The students who want to study on their own paths. These students can learn from their own work places, from the own time schedules, from their own opportunities and from their own obstacles. In this education form, students can communicate with the university and with their classmates from different spaces and times in which they choose.
Nowadays, Thailand faces with many new problems. The new globalization brings new challenges and new threats. This situation makes our country need to develop new human resources to perform this new knowledge society. Therefore, the new concepts, new methodologies and new form of education are very much in need for this situation. Opening wider opportunities for students particularly at higher education is very important to fulfill the country needs. I think that the meeting mentioned above not only useful for RSCU and OCHE , but also provided confident to other universities as well as other interesting people whom are interested in online education.
